In L'Arche, assistants are the direct support professionals who support and share life with people with disabilities.

Assistants share life in community alongside adults with intellectual disabilities (known in L'Arche as "core members".)  Assistants are skilled direct support professionals who commit to building relationships of mutual care and support with core members.  They accompany core members in their activities of daily life - preparing meals, caring for their home, money management, personal care needs, medication administration, family and social connections, and support at medical appointments.  Most assistants will live in the home with core members and all assistants help foster a home life characterized by unity, mutual respect, and active participation.

As a member of our founding house team, you'll bring your unique skills & gifts to make a lasting impact on our first home and the life of the community.

This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the founding of our first home. The initial months will require diligence, self-motivation and creativity as you collaborate with the House Leader, fellow assistants, and core members in developing common routines and nurturing a vibrant home life. This role requires an inclusive mindset, an open heart, dedication to personal growth, and a belief in the gifts and dignity of every person.

We encourage applicants from many different backgrounds and walks of life. L’Arche will provide you with the necessary training to thrive in your role, as well as on-going formation as it relates to both your role as a direct support professional and life in an intentional community.  It is most important that applicants to L’Arche have an open heart, a willingness to learn, a commitment to personal growth, and a belief in the unique sacredness of every person.
