I began my journey with L'Arche Frederick a few months ago. L'Arche is great proponent of inclusivity, joy, and togetherness. This year's annual Community Picnic was a wonderful example of the hearth and love that exists within the community. Our home and the community experienced a simple, yet important treasure of life, unity. Thank you to the DeLoaches to consistently providing a beautiful space and welcoming us to their home!
The picnic was driven by community effort, with some bringing homemade sandwiches, various pasta salads (and a delicious garden salad!), fruit, and drink. We enjoyed lawn games including lawn bowling, croquet, and cornhole. The community members engaged with one another and the children, proving that the spirit of L'Arche courses through all! I have more than appreciated the sense of community and belonging in my short time here as I continue to see familiar faces at every event, strengthening the bond.
The main highlight was a special opportunity organized by the DeLoaches. They offered the chance to churn homemade peach ice cream! A few members of the community participated in helping, and produced a delectable batch. This was a perfect way to beat the heat of the day and to end our day filled with fun.
As always, the picnic was an ideal time to create and capture memories. I was able to bring along a camera and take some photos that reflected L'Arche's mission and most of all, the community that has formed here in Frederick over the past several years.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the DeLoach family and to everyone in attendance who contributed to making the Community Picnic a success once again! Events like these are a testament to the power of community and the importance of coming together to celebrate the simple joys of life. We look forward to many more gatherings like this, where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and part of something special.
